Frequently Asked Questions
A cake smash session is a fun and memorable way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. I offer the option of a package that includes a portrait session, the cake smash itself, and a bath to clean up—capturing joyful, messy moments and sweet expressions or just a cake smash session without the clean portraits beforehand.
It’s best to book 4–6 weeks before your baby’s birthday, especially if you’d like the images ready for invitations or party displays. Booking early also allows time to plan the theme and cake.
Sessions are held in my studio, which is fully equipped with themed backdrops, props, and a baby-friendly bath setup. If you have a specific theme in mind, we’ll chat beforehand to create something unique for your little one. I have also done a few outdoor cake smash sessions over the summer time when the weather is warm and perfect for an outdoor shoot.
I don't supply the cake - you’re welcome to make your own cake, or I can recommend trusted local bakers who offer allergy-friendly options. Soft buttercream cakes in light colours tend to photograph best.
You can bring a special outfit for the portrait portion and a simpler one for the cake smash—think vests, nappy covers, or themed attire. I also have a few outfits and accessories available in the studio if needed.

Every baby reacts differently—some dive right in, others prefer to poke or play. We’ll follow their lead and capture adorable moments either way. If needed, we can use small snacks to encourage interaction.
Possibly! You may need to help guide your baby or encourage them to explore the cake. It’s best to wear something comfortable and bring a spare outfit just in case.
Absolutely. Whether it’s whimsical, minimal, floral, or character-inspired, we’ll work together to create a setup that reflects your baby’s personality and your style. You’re welcome to share inspiration images or let me design something bespoke.
Yes! If cake isn’t your thing, we can explore alternatives like fruit smashes (think watermelon or berries), pancake stacks, or even a paint splash session. It’s all about celebrating your little one in a way that feels right for you.
Of course. Personal touches like banners, toys, or heirloom items are welcome. If you’re planning a themed birthday party, we can coordinate colours and props to match for a cohesive look.
